 Much of Cape Breton’s majesty lies in its largely unaltered environment. We are proud to be ecofriendly, and we show it by taking a comprehensive approach to limiting our footprint.

Our efforts include:

  • Sourcing food from within 100 kilometers
  • Using local and organic food whenever possible

  • Herb Garden to share with guests

  • Proactive guest education practices (we love learning from guests as well)

  • 100 acres protected forest

  • Perodic best practices staff training
  • Transitioning towards 100% use of LED and other specialized light bulb

  • Indepedently heated rooms with own thermostats

  • Strategic building placement and design to incorporate South-facing overhands and natural wind drafts

  • Co-op and store purchases include Canada Organic, USDA Certified Organic, Fair Trade Certified, Rainforest Alliance Certified: Ocean Wise, and Canadian Organic Aquaculture Standard products

  • Green Knight  for laundry and dishwashing
  • Locally crafted and historic furnishings
  • Furniture and electronics donation to Kidney foundation, Women's Center in Sydney and United Church of St. Ann's Bay
